Often overlooked for its more cosmopolitan cousins Milan, Venice, Tuscany, Florence or Rome, Bologna is a captivating region famed for its rich, delicious foods and unparalleled ingredients—one of Bologna’s nicknames, after all, is la grassa, meaning “the fat.” Indulge your appetites with locally-sourced and -produced meats like prosciutto, culatello and artisanal mortadella. Treat yourself to fresh egg pastas prepared with light sauces or broths and drizzled with real balsamic, allowing you to truly taste the delicate flavors. You will find everything on offer from fresh fish and vegetables, to hearty meats, flavorful cheeses, gelato, espresso and, naturally, wine.
DAY1|OCT.29,MONDAY: WELCOME BOLOGNA
You will be met at Bologna Airport or at the Bologna Centrale train station with a private transfer to your hotel, Al Cappello Rosso. Check in and enjoy the rest of your day exploring the city, from its famous arcaded streets and tilted medieval towers, to its outdoor cafes and famous local cuisine. The tour group will meet at a nearby restaurant for a welcome dinner.
DAY2|OCT. 30TUESDAY: FOOD TOUR
After a restful night and breakfast, we will travel to the northern region of Emiliaby private minivan. There we will visit local parmesan cheese and prosciutto producers, and a balsamic vinegar estate. Next we will be treated to a 6-course gourmet lunch with paired wines at a local family-owned restaurant . Adventure on your own for dinner, perhaps checking out the famous Bolognese sauce (withtagliatelle, of course!).
DAY 3| OCT.31,WEDNESDAY: DOZZA,FAENZA, BRISIGHELLA
After breakfast we will travel by private minivan to Faenza for a tour of a ceramics workshop. From there we will venture on to the medieval village of Brisighella in the Romagna region for an olive oil tasting. On the way back to Bologna we will stop in the small village of Dozza to see its famed 15th century fortress and painted walls and visit a winery estate for wine and food tasting. Enjoy a romantic dinner on your own featuring traditional Emilia-Romagna cuisine.
DAY 4|NOV.1, THURSDAY : PASTA COOKING CLASS
After breakfast, and a brief walk through the market , we will be welcomed into a private residence for a unique luncheon experience where our hosts will teach us about local cuisine, traditions, and authentic meal preparation, and we will make fresh egg pasta from scratch. We will dine family-style, sharing the fruits of our labors.
DAY 5 |NOV.2,FRIDAY TASTE BOLOGNA
Following breakfast, explore Bologna with our distinctive walking tour highlighting the scents, sights and tastes that will stay with you long after your visit. Led by charming local guides, we will explore the historic city center including Bologna’s famous food markets featuring fresh baked breads and desserts, deli meats and cheeses, bread, pasta, wine, and chocolate. We will then go by private transfer to Carpigiani Museum for an exclusive gelato-making class. This evening will see our farewell dinner at an ancient “Osteria” in the city center.
DAY 6| NOV.3, SAT: FAREWELL
After breakfast and check out, you will be taken by private transfer to Bologna airport or Bologna Centrale train station for your return trip, or to continue on to your next destination.
